OUR MISSION

The mission of DonLew's Foundation is to provide health information and hygiene supplies to youth so they can thrive in feeling healthy and confident.

WHO WE ARE

Our purpose is to provide young people with essential hygiene products and information to maintain cleanliness. We are a collective impact group made up of diverse community members. We are passionate about eliminating stigmas and alleviating many of the barriers that keep young people from fully participating in school or in the community due to hygiene poverty.

About Hygiene Disease Prevention

WHAT IS HYGIENE POVERTY

Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford many of the everyday hygiene and personal care items that most of us take for granted. It negatively impacts school attendance, can erode a child’s self-esteem and create health risks.  According to a survey of more than 100 educators conducted by Provision Promise, 34% of teachers believed students skipped school due to hygiene issues. For some children that could mean not washing their hair, having to share a toothbrush, not having menstrual products, or having to wear dirty clothing because there isn’t enough money to purchase the personal care items that they need.

WHAT WE DO

Our Programs

DonLew's collects health and hygiene education and personal care products to distribute to disadvantaged children and youth up to age 18. Hygiene and personal care items are donated, collected, sorted and distributed to our network of community partners, which include K-12 schools, youth-serving organizations, shelters that house youth and charities that serve underserved communities.

Period Parties

A young woman’s first period can feel scary or embarrassing, especially if her exposure to medically based health information is limited. Our period parties provide girls approaching the age of puberty information about menstruation and its biological function. Myths and common stigmas will be dispelled and an introduction of menstrual products and how they work will be provided.  Advice on how to manage menstruation challenges like period leaks, cramps and other discomfort will be addressed. The party also includes period-themed games, snacks and a hygiene pack. To schedule a period party or for more information, click the link here.
